I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto

Is this really happening?

Corporate giant delay UK launch of hot new gadget for 9 months, whilst it is readily available in the USA and Japan

Little guy, in to videogames and working from home on his own spots an opportunity and imports a few to sell them on his website (www.electricbirdland.co.uk) and gets the jump on the giant

1000’s of other companies do the same (and still are)

2000’s of ebayers do the same (and still are)

Corporate giant buys £1000's of new gadget from little guy

Corporate giant sends out threatening letters via bully boy solicitors

Corporate giant buys £1000's more of new gadget from little guy

Little guy says “hold on a sec, that’s not fair”

All the other young guys and older guys say "..."

Corporate giant sues little guy for £50,000 for mouthing off and to set an example but negotiates great deals with bigger players with more money to defend themselves

Corporate giant buys £1000's more of new gadget from little guy

Corporate giant takes little guy to the High Court to tag team him in a court room with Six bruisers

That same day little guys courier delivers £1000's of pounds worth of new gadget to Giantstrasse in Austria

That same day whilst little guy is being bulldozed, corporate giants' goons turn up at little guys house to intimidate littles guys wife, little guys wife is pregnant with little guys baby and little guys wife is crying

Little guy throws a couple of untrained verbal punches but the judge sends him in to the corner with an injunction and tells bully boy solicitors to stop sending their goons round to scare little guys wife

Corporate giant is feeling like he is really doing good policing his great new product from the UK, bully boy solicitors rub their hands together

Little guy doesn't like new gadget any more

Corporate giants tells everyone that little guys are "small beer" and little guys are no big deal. Bully boy solicitors then proceed to phone all the other little guys to tell them what they have done to this little guy

Little guy posts blog entry at 2 am

Little guy thinks it is a big deal, if little guy doesn't fight giant corporate monster little guy will have to close his shop and get a job at tesco's so he can feed his little girls.

I'm sure there is a Radiohead song about this.

Yup, sadly the little guy must die when there are huge corporations at work...nothing can really be done about it which is kinda sad.

However, only huge corporations can fund a product such as the PSP - to through a shitload of cash and time into something like this - what if the DS actually had better graphics, standard functionality (at time of release) to play video clips, mp3's, view photos and add memory cards? Most likely Sony would have been in big trouble then...and I would have imported a DS instead (of course I wouldn't have to import it because it's been available here in South Africa for 9 months already).

Of course they'll never stop all of the imports - they couldn't even if they tried. Sadly you had to be an example. What's really sad about it is that they think that they've actually won something - meanwhile people are still going to import right up until September - maybe even after that because:

1. It's cheaper than buying it locally - why must we cough up the extra cash when it get's here - for the privelage of having to wait all this time?

2. A wider selection of games and movies from Japan, USA and wherever else instead of what they decide to release to every country. In South Africa we have a seperate distributor for Sony - locally they don't deal with playstation products themselves (how fukken patethic is that?). Anyway, it means we are only able to get the titles THEY decide to distribute. It's Bull!

3. Excellent customer service. Importers are far quicker to reply to queries about their products than Sony or any of the distributors are (obviously because they're so big they can afford to adopt the "I don't care so I'll take my time in getting back to you" attitude towards their customers).

Okay, enough with my blah-blah yackety yacketing...

Conclusion: Sony does make some good stuff - however their attitude is in some serious need of tuning...

Hey Dan,

That's a dark 2am view on things.Fair enough i'm not in your position, but still... surely positivity is the way forward. :)

All you can do is to try your best. Fuck them, they are blood sucking leeches.

Remember the good things Dan. Battle onwards and don't ever let Tesco(TM) take your soul... Your daughter will never forgive you when she too is sitting at a checkout. ;)

Fight the power.

Look to the future.

Stay independent.
